Following the amazing inspiration of Kara, I try to follow this guideline for Christmas gift buying for the kids:
Something they WANT. Something they NEED. Something to WEAR. Something to READ.
Because I LOVE Christmas gift giving, it's hard for me to simply that far. I've added a couple of my own:
Something to WATCH. Something to PLAY.
We have a couple other traditions that I factor in. Every Christmas Eve we open 1 gift - pajamas that we wear that night. I also get the kids a Keepsake Ornament each year to add to their collection. Plus we have our usual stocking stuffers.
As a list maker, I wanted to have a place to keep my Master List so that I can stay focused and make sure I have all my bases covered.
